Covid Stats for 07/13/20

Two stories in Florida yesterday; they had the largest ever number of reported cases, 15,300, but they also had the largest number of reported tests, over 98,000 (they normally average around 50k/day and largest number they’ve ever done before is 65k). Another hotspot, and although they don’t have many reported cases or a large population, it’s climbing fast each day, Virgin Islands. And again, the issue is number of hospital beds and ventilators available, not necessarily the number of cases.

For the US, it looks like we’ve reached our second plateau. If you look at the trends, we had a period where the average number of reported cases was in the upper 20k - lower 30k per day, and was tailing down. Then the protests hit and we’ve surged to around 60k per day, but it seems to be holding steady around that level, and hopefully it will now start to come down again, now that some of the re-openings are paused and as we social distance again.

For some good news, California’s trajectory has been in the right direction for the past couple days, even though Santa Clara, where I live, reported their largest ever number of cases yesterday.
