Covid Stats for 06/30/20
And now they’re talking about a swine flu? WHAT???!!!
So little pause in the reporting today because I noticed that my numbers were diverging from the WorldoMeters site, which I believe does a really good job of checking their data and using reputable sources. What I found is that they were reporting a number of ‘extra groups’ that are in the Johns Hopkins Totals, but not split out in the data, for some reason. Veteran Affairs (21,769), US Military (17,116), Navajo Nation (7,469) and Federal Prisons (7,365) can’t be found in the drop-downs on the JHU site, or in the GitHub data, but the numbers are in the totals. I’ve added another step to my reporting to add these groups going forward, and will try to find a way to get the history.
Also, all of the California counties that didn’t report yesterday updated today, so it looks like we’re back on track there. The one other anomaly was New York: WorldoMeters is reporting ~30k more cases than the JHU site.
As these anomalies affect the curve, I’m not going to publish the charts today and work on normalizing the data.
Hope everyone is well and staying safe!
